The Jeep Liberty 2002

Launched in 2002, the Jeep Liberty was a new model that Jeep introduced after a long gap of ten odd years. The Liberty was a replacement for the Jeep Cherokee the production for which ended in 2001.

The Liberty is a 4 door SUV and can accommodate 5 passengers comfortably. It's unique uniframe body is brilliant for off roading trips. Combined with the novel independent front suspension and the first ever rack and pinion steering from Jeep

The Jeep Liberty Exterior Design

The Liberty is 174.7 inches long and 70.7 inches tall. The exterior was modeled after two concept cars - the Dakar (1997) and the Jeepster (1998). The trademark 7-slot grille that is unmistakably Jeep adorns the front. The Jeep Liberty imparts a sense of forward motion since the front is lowered and the rear raised a bit. 38 - 32 degree approach - departure angles make it a fantastic vehicle for off roading.

The spare tire in the Liberty is mounted on the swing out tailgate. The tailgate also has a glass that can be flipped open to give easy access to the storage area. All in all, the design screams Jeep and is proud of it.

The Jeep Liberty Interiors

Seats 5, a 65/35 split rear seat with one handed folding mechanism and lots of storage space make this the perfect vehicle for camping trips. Map holders, shopping bag holders and child tether anchors are some of the other features.

The soft touch instrument panel is ergonomically designed with bold, round dials and black on beige graphics.

The Jeep Liberty Mechanics

Four cylinder V-6 engines with 150 horsepower. You can choose from a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission and any one of two 4WD systems - the standard part time Command-Trac or the optional full time Selec-Trac.

Overall, the Jeep Liberty is definitely a great addition to Jeep's vehicles. In addition to the excellence of the Cherokee for on road and off road driving, the Liberty has been fine tuned to offer more style and elegance as well.
