Every Jeep owner dreams of installing a cool new Jeep lift kit for his or her Jeep. However, most of them have a ready excuse on hand. Either the kit is too expensive or simply too much work. However, the market is simply flooded with some great lift kits at varying price levels.
It would be stretching the truth to say that they are easy to install, but surely they are worth the trouble! When installing a lift kit there are several things you need to keep in mind.
The first and most important thing is to start small. If this is the first time you are installing a Jeep lift kit, start with a small lift kit and work your way up. There are some good lift kits out there that have upgrade kits when you are ready to increase the height of your jeep.
It is always better to get comfortable with a small lift and then keep adding height, as you get more and more comfortable. Learn to handle your Jeep 2 inches taller, before jumping to a lift kit of 8 inches or more.
Before you buy your lift kit, you also need to keep in mind what exactly you plan on using the lift for. If you want a Jeep lift kit just for looks then a smaller lift of 2-3" should suffice. The 3" lift kit is also good for moderate off-roading and on a daily commuter.
However, if you plan to go for heavy off-roading or want to get bigger tires for your rig, get the 5-6" Jeep lift kit up front. It will save you money and effort. You will also need to invest in shocks to accommodate whatever lift kit you plan on installing.
Whichever lift kit you finally choose to install, remember that it will affect your Jeep's overall performance and handling. You will need to have a thorough knowledge of your Jeep's capabilities before and after installing the Jeep lift kit to get maximum benefit from it.
