Use Jeep Trailers to Haul Supplies

Jeep trailers, they could be just what you’ve been looking for.

The great thing about owning a Jeep is that it is nice and compact and can go just about anywhere. The drawback however, is that you can't carry much of anything in it and you certainly can't haul much. Getting a sheet of plywood from the store to home can be a painful job!

That's where a Jeep trailer could come into the picture. There are many trailers out there for you to choose from.

The 3 models most commonly referred to are:

  • The WWII MBT and T-3
  • The Korean War vintage M-100
  • The Vietnam War era M-416
  • Of the three the M-416's are the newest and hence the easiest to find if you want to buy a trailer. The WWII Jeep trailer is the next easiest to find. However, they are still rare and cost a whole lot more than the first kind because of their popularity.

The WWII Willys MBT and Bantam's T-3 trailer could haul food, ammunition, fuel, people, medical supplies, clothing, bedding and all kinds of other supplies. Willys manufactured close to 60,000 MBT trailers and Bantam 73,569 T-3 trailers. Another fascinating fact about these two is that they were both amphibious and could be floated in water!

The M-100's are the least easy to find and also the least in demand! However, the M-100's are thought to be the best Jeep trailer for the average person with a civilian Jeep. These trailers are great looking off-road and on-road trailers

Bantam modified the T-3 somewhat and continued to manufacture it after the World War. The stripped down civilian Jeep trailer was named BT3C. Other countries also made copies of the trailer introduced by Bantam and Willys. Japan, Switzerland, Holland and France all made various versions of the Jeep trailer during the cold war following the end of the Second World War.

As time passed, Jeep trailers too underwent modifications and the Korean War saw the emergence of the M-100 with the M-416 appearing during the Vietnam War.

The M716 and M762 are two small generator trailers. These flatbed trailers are based on the M416 chassis, and are rated at 3/4-ton gross. The M-762 have the same shape flat fenders as the M416's have, but these fenders also have the back closed off to prevent water from splashing onto the load.

Thus Jeep trailers are rather popular to haul supplies - with the military as well as with civilians.
